Drake Island, Plymouth

What's the deal with Drake Island exactly? I've seen boats moored to its north and on occasion I've seen people ashore pottering about. It looks like such an intriguing place - I'd love to go ashore and explore - but is it a no-no? Also heard a rumour that there's tunnels between the island and the ...

Suzuki 2.2 2-Stroke Outboard Engine Won't Start

I've actually solved this now I think, but thought I'd post the conclusions in case they can help someone else with the same problem. Basically, my little Suzuki outboard engine died on me a while ago mid-river, mid-tide, brill :( I found out from the engine manual (and a lot of help from forums) th...

That is pretty odd :P Didn't realise how simple it was until closer inspection just now. One thought though is that maybe the names are for patenter, manufacturer - possibly for the mechanism (if you can call a bubble in a tube a mechanism), but also possibly for the all important weatherproof brass...

According to Voyaging On A Small Income, it's about 30 feet. Smaller would be cheaper obviously, but they reckon the extra stowage space available on a slightly bigger yacht offers better economy, as when you're travelling the high seas and lands afar, when you spot a bargain, you can buy a lot more...

Another quote for you from my "Voyaging on a small income" book. They argue that ALL water should be in smallish plastic bottles, for a number of reasons. Can't mix, so if one gets spoiled you have others. Easy to refill without having to take boat to water - so often free when otherwise n...

It's very handy to have it mobile so you can move it round with you. I take mine to the bow sometimes to sit there and watch the sunset with a song :)

Also - very very nice knowing it's not depleting my boat batts at all.

Just ensure the pivot point is well above the surface of the stove - no need for more weight or restricted movement.

Like this I mean...

Yep, you sound like me :D Only problem is, I'm lazy too so have to fight the urge to bodge! Gimbals - the gas twin hob I removed (to comply with insurer's demands) was gimbaled simply by having two metal rods protruding from it, sat in U shaped slots. Can't imagine you'd need to go to the trouble of...

You're very right. I did get pan holders and have needed them a lot!

I installed my stove using the Origo gimbals at £50 approx. They really let the stove down. Not very well made really. They do work though so I shouldn't complain too much - but for the price hmmm. I AM from Yorkshire :)

I've been reading about this in "Voyaging on a Small Income" which is a great read. It's a book about a couple who travel the world on a shoestring. All true and full of really useful tips. They make most meals in a pressure cooker as it saves on mess, cooks quicker which saves on fuel, an...

They're on Ebay all the time. Absolutely fantastic bit of kit. Make the cabin feel like such a magic place to be. The light is so warming itself. Sounds like I'm a bit soppy but you'll understand if you get one.

My little Sony is great. Batteries last for absolutely ages. Reception is really good for what I want from it (mostly radio 4). It's much smaller than you'd think from the picture. I'm very happy with it. Have been tempted by the alternatives on occasion though. Roberts do one for about £150 which h...

Some photos from monday morning...

Very pleased with these shots. More luck than judgement. Was monday this week - about 7am. I was woken up by the gulls who were landing on and crapping on my boat. Unsure why they've suddenly decided my boat is the morning hangout, but that's another story. Here's my pics: http://www.kite-fantastic....

Hehe, well I think deck shoes look like golf shoes - which can't be a good thing hehe. And they're SO expensive for what they are! I'll stick to my squash shoes I think.
