Westerly Centaur Cruising Chute For Sale

Post by Jeff »

This is now for sale on Ebay here:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0752798482

Starting price £0.99, no reserve!

Excellent condition. Comes with a "sock" so you can hoist the sock then deploy the chute and then hoist the sock up to un-deploy it - if that makes sense.

Comes in a nice big sail bag.

Needs a whisker pole or snuffer pole thing also. We used to use one that cast circa £140 - telescopic.

Open to sensible offers.

Fits a Westerly Centaur, but I'm sure it would fit other similar sized yachts.

Some pics...

Additional information on this sail:

Leach 1
Head->Clew = 957cm

Leach 2
Head->Tack = 977cm

Foot
Clew->Tack = 540cm

The makers of the sail, Crusader Sails, said this about it:

"It's most likely a symmetrical spinnaker that's been recut by taking a bit off the foot. It's possible it was made as an asymmetric originally, however theres more likely to be a difference of up to 36" on the tapes, not 20cm."

The sail is in fabulous condition except for:

1. There's a pulled thread on the snuffer (the sock) at one of the seams. It's fine to use as is and seems strong, but would be an easy job to oversew.

2. The snuffer (sock) has some dirty marks and a little mildew on it. Very little though. The punched holes in it have eyelets which are showing signs of corrosion.

3. There are a couple of minascule dots of mildew in one location that I can find on the sail itself - and I mean minascule.

4. One of the seams on the sail itself (all are zigzag stiched, twice) has a little fraying of the cloth outside of the outer two lines of zigzags. I've seem the same on new sails. I think this is normal.

5. Slight staining on the tack and clew around the giant eyelets located there.

Here's a load of close up shots which show the above issues excluding no. 4.
