Everything costs more than you'd expect in the yacht world. For example, if you bought a Westerly Centaur (usually sell in the £10k region) you'd need to consider:

Bad osomsis - can cost £3k+ to sort.

Original engine on its last legs - can cost £4k -> £6k

Headlining droop - £2k

Keels need re-seating - £2k

Hull needs strengthening (older models need this) - £2k

Sails need replacing £2k

Rigging needs replacing £2k

Still using round boom reefing for the mainsail - needs a new sail and
£100 spending on mods to the boom.

Just ballparks, but you get the idea.

Sorry Dave but aluminium is relatively easy to weld - just remember cleanliness and to use DCRP or AC and forget about stick or gas welding it although I have in the past gas welded Aluminium - real PITA though. TIG or MIG are OK.
