Buyers, Sellers, and Yacht brokers alike are watching the mess which the ‘credit crunch ’is causing to the Financial Markets and waiting to see what this effect has on the second hand yacht market and shipyard orders.
What is going to happen?

Simple question. Have the prices of big yachts (new or used) come down. Is it similar to what has happened in the housing market, is it a buyers market?

Short answer is yes, prices are dropping, but this time of year never commands good prices for boats, best to sell in spring
Is it being affected by the credit crunch ?
I think so, yes, but then this has been a long time coming, and was inevitable in a market where prices were reaching the point where nobody could come in at the bottom. Price out the new owners and eventually the whole thing breaks down. Inevitable result of people's greed

So if you were in the market to buy, wait till autumn/winter and haggle.?

That's when I would do it definately, spring and summer (haha) are when the dreamers are out looking and thinking how nice it would be to get out there sailing, it doesn't look as nice in autumn or winter so the prices fall

Prices are down, but many feel there was more movement in December- we will see what 2010 has to offer
