Hi Jeff By hot swapping, I presume you mean sliding the shaft back and popping a new one on while afloat. I know this can be done but having a slightly cautious outlook on life I probably wouldn't. My reasoning would be that I wouldn't want to rush putting a new one on a therefore risk damaging it a...

Hey Jeff Good to see your afloat and up in Hartlepool. Sorry to hear about the sterngland. Unfortunately, it sounds like it mayhave been damaged or become misaligned slightly. Anywhere to dry out alongside in Hartlepool or nearby to investigate further? Sorry, not much help as we are still on the ol...

OH, MY, GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hell truly is boat ownership!!! That was an epic week. I know that priming the fuel system can be difficult but didn't think it would be that hard!!! I think the manual pump on the Beta is a bit 'weedy' - but then they are on most boat engines that I have seen. I can see t...

Yeah probably too late now but the manual pump on the engine not often man enough to draw through fuel from a new tank, past primary filter etc. Suppose you have turned the engine over with the bleed screw wide open to encourage the fuel through to the engine itself? I remember having to start a she...

......and I thought I had problems!!! Sorry to hear about the leaking tank. If you are worried about future diesel bug problems then treat the tank with some startron everytime you fill up and fit a purafiner to your fuel line (it breaks up the long chain that the diesel bug creates) www.purafiner.c...

Hi Jeff Loads not right - still have dodgy varnish on the saloon bulkhead, a saloon window has decided to spring a leak, VHF cable is still in two pieces while I try to figure out the best way to sort it out, companionway has developed a leak, treadmaster paint (at nearly£50 a litre) spontaneously w...

Hi Jeff

Are you afloat yet? Just back from Plymouth and we seem to be going backwards - more problems than solutions!! Just wondering if it's 'smooth sailing' up your way???

I suspect that because your boat is newer than ours, the gelcoat doesn't go dull or flat over winter. We wax the hull every year on the basis that the gelcoat isn't totally uv stable and will be attacked by sunlight a bit like the paintwork on a car. There is a Dehler 34 in the cradle next to us at ...

Hi Jeff The £50,000 question!!!!! Well we have signed on to go across to Guernsey in June with the Westerly Owners SW. Never been to a meet afloat with any yachts before so thought we would try this out - safety in numbers for crossing the Channel. They are then heading off to France but we'll stay ...

Hi Jeff and Rose I was just wondering what the book is called and who wrote it? I read a book by a bloke called Geoff Hainsworth (The Voyages of T'Early Bird) who set off from Hartlepool and sailed around the world in a Voyager 35. The voyage was more remarkable as I don't think he had a huge amount...

Pension - Who needs one of those? I would plan on a retirement somewhere warm and cheap where you can float around on your boat slowly pickling your liver with cheap rum!!!! Found any candidates for a bigger boat yet? I have been banned from looking!

Prop Fouling

We were lifted today and our prop looked like a sponge and barnacle garden. It was polished to a mirror shine before launch at the end of May so obviously polishing doesn't work. Tried antifoul before - no good either. Anyone tried lanolin? Any good? Is it easy to apply? what's the best way? Any oth...

Could it have been from YBW? can't quite remember. I remember thinking it sounded like it was going to be a great trip. Loved the fact you sailed into central London. I would love to sail from Plymouth to Scotland via Ireland if I could find the time (and nerve). Have sailed in the Clyde a fair bit ...

We were fin keeled so were in the middle of the river about 60 or 70 metres up from the slipway. I loved it there too. We were a blue hulled Trapper 500 at that time. Might have seen each other at the toast racks fetching our dinghy. Walt Disney was right ............it is a small world after all!!!...
